yummy in ur tummy

Oh yum! homemade granola, yummy in ur tummy. These make great favors. I made them for my guests last week. Super easy to make and super easy to eat too! Enjoy your homemade granola with Greek yogurt, some fruit and a dash of honey, or do it old school style and eat it with real milk, that is right the organic kind.

Recipe:

Yield: 6 cups (serving size: 1/4 cup)

Ingredients

  • 4  cups  regular oats
  • 1/4  cup  slivered almonds
  • 1 1/2  teaspoons  ground cinnamon
  • 1/4  teaspoon  salt
  • 1/3  cup  water
  • 1/3  cup  honey
  • 1/3  cup  maple syrup
  • 2  tablespoons  brown sugar
  • 2  tablespoons  canola oil
  • Cooking spray
  • 1  cup  minced dried apricots (optional)
  • 1  cup  raisins (optional)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 325°.

Combine first 4 ingredients in a large bowl.

Combine water, honey, syrup, sugar, and oil in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Pour over oat mixture; toss to coat. Spread oat mixture on a jelly-roll pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 325° for 35 minutes or until golden, stirring every 10 minutes. Place in a large bowl; stir in apricots and raisins. Cool completely.

Note: Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

Presentation:

For my guest I presented the yummy granola in little canning jars that I have been collecting from jams, sauces, spaghetti sauce, salsa, and all those sorts of other things. I can’t bare to throw them away because I feel like it is so wasteful of the material even though they can be recycled. So I am finding other uses for them like fun favors, or random items like nuts, or if you buy stuff in bulk, you can store dried beans, lentils, or even cream of wheat, depending on how large the jar is. Keep the caps because you might need them.

I wash each jar and take off the label when it is empty. Then decorate it with a ribbon, fill it with granola and make a little label on your computer. At JoAnn’s you can get cute shape cutters that cut paper in perfect shapes, I have one for circles and one for hearts, they are very clever and easy to use. I used my circle one to get a perfect label shape. If you have traditional canning jars buy a cute fabric to cut into little pieces and than place it over the tin like the old school jars…so cute!
