random Tuesday evening thoughts…

I am realizing more and more how I need to dig back into history, art, and well just books…yesterday I went to the library for the first time in ages! I am more and more inspired to start reading again (since starting my business well being inspired by stories, music, and art has been lacking). It is just hard to find the time for it….but I am going to force myself to find time for other fun things besides my photography…for example I am taking up upholstery! Starting in 2 weeks I will be starting my first class at MATC! yay!

Today I am inspired by this (see images below)…and thinking how I would love to get a book on Dior next week at the library downtown…beautiful feminine dresses…why don’t we still dress like this now? Instead designers want us to wear boxy cloths that only fit the boy figure…we need cloths for the curves…practical yet beautiful feminine items! Anyways this is a random post…I found these images randomly searching for 1950′s fashion on Google today.

What do I do while editing photos all day? Usually I listen to Pandora (which I love) but this week I started to listen to Emma (audio style).  And currently I am watching “North & South” on net flicks…I am a sucker for the prim and proper classics…oh etiquette!

Why can’t we be more like Jane Austin’s time, dress in beautiful items that we treasure dearly instead of this constant through away crappy cloths, that we wear once and the buttons fall off, talk with sweet words of kindness and proper etiquette, write beautiful love letters in pretty fancy handwriting, drink tea every afternoon with your lady friends whom you call on and throw lavish parties for your guests that stay for 2 weeks!

Carissa’s Quinceañera was a lot of fun! By far the best birthday party I have ever been too! She wore a beautiful white princess style gown and her accent color was red..everyone had red! The Ballroom was decorated in red as well…and the whole party did a beautiful choreographed dance towards the end of the evening.

What is a Quinceañera?

One of the most important celebrations in Mexican culture is the tradition of the Quinceañera. This constitutes a ceremony on a girl’s fifteenth birthday to mark her passage to womanhood, to give thanks to God for his blessings, and to present a young woman to the community.

The young woman’s fifteenth birthday begins with a Misa de acción de gracias, or mass to give thanks for a completed childhood. The festejada, or adolescent woman celebrating the birthday, is seated at the foot of the church altar resplendent in an elaborate pink or white formal dress. The godparents have bestowed her with special gifts, often jewelry to accent the beautiful dress. Around the celebrant are seated her damaschambelanes (escorts).  (maids of honor) and and chambelanes (escorts).

Carrissa’s celebration begun with a ceremony, after the party took a limo to downtown to take some formal photos. Than the evening started with dinner and a Mariachi band, followed by a more formal Latin band and than finally a disc spinning DJ! Woo what a party. People went crazy over the yummy chocolate fountain and the amazing cake!

What a great party—-thank you for allowing me to be a part of it in such a special way! It was such a joy.

Enjoy the sneak peak!

Hanging out with Nathan and his sister Allie was a blast a few weeks back! We just hung around their place and shot his Senior photos in the backyard. Nathan is a very cool easy going guy…he likes to go hunting with his Bowen arrow. So he showed me some of his moves—it looked sort of hard to get that arrow into position… I had a blast hanging out with the two of them and the doggies. We had lots of great laughs! It has been a long time since Allie and I have chatted so that was super fun and she makes a great photo assistant and reflector disc holder! ;-)

Here are a few shots from the afternoon. Enjoy.

The dogies also wanted to get their photo taken! They are hams for the camera. ;-)
